The Black Swan on Sukhumvit Road right under the Asoke BTS station is an English pub in the traditional sense: it’s cozy, full of people and sports a good menu of pub food. What it also has, however, is a large menu of international and Thai food to further tempt customer’s appetites.
This large menu touches a lot of culinary bases and this extends to dishes like barbecued ribs (see photo right) and many others that are not typically featured at English pubs such as plenty of salads and burgers and steaks.
There are also, of course, all of the pub food favorites you’d expect to find too such as bangers and mash, shepherd’s pie, fish and chips and so forth. It’s the great variety, though, that really sets The Black Swan apart and gives it more of a broader appeal.
We tried a number of dishes here including the aforementioned ribs which were among the tenderest we’ve had anywhere in the city. According to the owner Dave it’s a result of them being in the oven for five hours or so. We also sampled a good mushroom cream soup, another pub staple, and also the roast chicken pictured above. It was quite crispy which is also somewhat of a rarity here. There’s nothing worse in our book than a roast chicken with unrendered fat in the skin to chew through but you won’t have to worry about that here.
We also had a nice Caesar salad  to start the meal off with, our nod to a healthy diet and as we said only one of a number of salads available.
And if you’re looking for an authentic English Christmas dinner then you should consider coming here also since they go all out with a big feast that is booked every year so don’t wait if you want to check it out.
As well as a pub this cozy spot is  a serious food place that will satisfy many different tastes.
