There are other meats on the menu — chicken, pork, lamb —and seafood too but make no mistake about it: this restaurant is all about beef. And it’s beef that comes from Argentina, the U.S. and Australia. The wagyu cuts on the menu come from Australia and the others come from the U.S. and Argentina.
They offer either a filet, ribeye or NY strip steak cut from prime Black Angus beef and the filet and ribeye from choice meat, a small step down the quality ladder. The Wagyu cuts are a filet and a Wagyu rump which is supposed to be very good and is much less expensive than the filet. There are several sizes available ranging from 200 to 1,000 grams.
If you want a break from beef there are, as mentioned above, a number of suitable alternatives. Lamb comes in the form of chops, a shank and also a marinated dish. There are also pork ribs and a chop available and several chicken dishes including a pan-fried breast. The four seafood choices include salmon and  two oven-baked dishes, a scampi and a John Dory, both of which look quite interesting.
You can also get burgers and some pastas and the side dishes are a mix of traditional fare like creamed spinach and mashed potatoes as well as mac and cheese, potato gratin and corn on the cob.
And what’s good food and wine without a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy it in? The interior of El Gaucho is warm and inviting, cozy almost, but with a stylish flair. The dark wood of the chairs and tables and the black leather banquettes offer a somber counterpoint  to the period photos of Argentina that adorn the walls and brighten the decor along with the large windows that make up an entire wall  of this long, rectangular space.
The top floor is the main dining room and looks like it seats around 60 people. The lower level is more of a bar space that also has seating for dining and contains a cooler where the beef that is on the menu can also be purchased for your own kitchen. And there’s also a large outdoor seating area that will undoubtedly get a lot more use once the rains stop.
Restaurants come and go here, as anywhere, but the people who are operating this restaurant know what they’re doing, have a good product and location and have a record of success in other cities. There’s no reason to suspect that their winning formula won’t be successful here as well which means that Sukhumvit will have another top-notch steakhouse to add to its list of attractions that will be here for a long time to come.
