Peruvian cuisine may not have many followers yet in Bangkok due to the fact there is just one restaurant that specializes in it but that may change if more people are exposed to its interesting flavors, ingredient combinations and textures.
Above 11, the rooftop restaurant on the 32nd floor of the Fraser Suites serviced apartment on Soi 11  has been serving this unique cuisine for the last eight months and seems to have found a loyal audience based on the numbers of people that regularly turn up to enjoy such dishes as the cebiche Above Eleven (top left), the arroz con mariscos (bottom left) and the causa kani (right), three of the dishes we sampled there on a recent visit while we enjoyed the great view.
These and many others reflect traditional Peruvian dishes and also interpretations of those by chef Omar. We especially enjoyed the causa kani as well as the cebiche which was topped with delicious little calamari rings perfectly deep-fried. Textural combinations like this make the food more interesting and add to the dish’s appeal.
The menu is not large but covers all types of meat and fish and there are a number of signature dishes in the offerings that reflect the Japanese and native Peruvian underpinnings to this trendy cuisine.
The drinks menu is also varied and offers some unique libations like the piscos drinks which are similar to tequila-based drinks. Don’t be surprised if more places try to offer this interesting cuisine in the near future.
