The relaunch of Senor Pico’s in the Rembrandt Hotel on Soi 18 took place in mid-December and the long wait was worth it. This Mexican outlet had been a part of the Rembrandt for at least the 17 years I’ve been here and the brand was created and launched originally in the U.S. in 1965 by Vic Bergeron, the creator of the Trader Vic’s restaurant chain.
Since many of the dishes in the old Senor Pico’s seemed to be of that same vintage, the Rembrandt’s management decided that a little retrofitting was in order and so a six-month makeover took place that has brought a new look and a new menu to this Mexican/Tex-Mex spot that is about having fun as much as eating and drinking.
Although if eating and drinking were all you wanted you certainly wouldn’t be disappointed since the new menu is more interesting and inventive than the old and the selection of drinks has been greatly expanded. In fact, they must have the largest selection of tequilas and margaritas in Thailand. There must be at least a dozen margarita flavors and we counted 36 different tequilas. That’s enough to keep anyone busy for a long time.
And for even more fun there’s a Mexican band playing from 7:30 on as well as a dance floor for those versed in Latino music like the salsa. All this drinking and dancing will make you hungry and the menu offers enough variety for anyone who likes this type of food.
We sampled a variety of dishes and were surprised when our first choice, the guacamole and chips, was made tableside from a cart much the same as you would have a Caesar salad made. We’ve never seen this before and the guacamole was excellent too.
The dishes you see  pictured here were also choices we tried and, surprisingly, the duck tacos were probably our favorite, another item we’ve not seen before on a Mexican menu. There are way too many dishes to mention but there is definitely something for everyone. Come to eat drink or dance but make sure you’re ready to party Mexican style when you come to Senor Pico’s.
